  • Chan Buddhism: The Soul of Shaolin

Shaolin Kung Fu is inseparable from Chan Buddhism (Zen). The Shaolin Temple is recognized as the birthplace of Chan, where the practice of meditation and martial arts were first combined into a single path of self-cultivation. What is Chan? Chan emphasizes direct experience over theoretical knowledge. It teaches that enlightenment is not something to be achieved in the distant future, but is accessible in every moment through mindfulness and sincere practice.

  • How Chan Manifests in Training:

Meditation (Zuo Chan): Daily sitting meditation helps calm the mind, develop focus, and cultivate inner stillness. Even 10–15 minutes of sitting practice can transform your mental state.

Moving Meditation: Kung Fu forms are practiced as meditation in motion. Each movement is performed with full awareness, turning physical training into a spiritual practice.

Mindfulness: Simple daily activities—eating, cleaning, walking—become opportunities to practice presence and gratitude.
